Dawn

Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to partner with some amazing people. I took my first trip to New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, to help rebuild. I then served in Rwanda, Africa, and Calcutta and Darjeeling, India. However, it was traveling to Haiti in 2011 where my heart felt called to return time and time again. There was a connection and commitment to the kids we met on that first trip that, little did I know, would turn into years journeying together through many seasons of life. Including the introduction of the VBS and feeding program that was launched with the now adults, whom we first met when they were in the orphanage.

We’ve been alongside these kids as they’ve grown—celebrating their graduations from high school, trade school, and university. We have watched as they married and also started their own families. We also support, encourage, and have our own heavy hearts as they, and our newer young adults face growing pains, heartaches, and struggles that come with life’s difficult seasons, made even harder by navigating life in Haiti.

Answering the call to work with youth in Haiti was the catalyst for me to get my Masters of Arts in School Counseling, and made a big career shift, becoming a professional school counselor. Now I’m working towards my professional counseling license to focus solely on mental health.

My husband and I live in Colorado. As part of the YES! board, I help mentor our YES! young adults, manage our donor database, bookkeeping, and mailings. It’s a special gift to be part of this community. My continued prayer is that we always steward this work under the Lord’s leadership and stay faithful to this calling wherever it takes us.
