I realized I had a heart for service work after taking my first trip to New Orleans in 2008 to help rebuild after Hurricane Katrina. I then served in Rwanda, Africa, and Calcutta and Darjeeling, India. However, Haiti is where my heart landed. I have traveled there frequently since 2011 with Beth and am still standing alongside young people I met on my first trip.

 

My Haitian experiences have revolved around the youth. I began working with the YES! teens when they were children living in an orphanage and have been fortunate enough to be part of their lives and celebrate milestones with them as they’ve grown. It continues to be a blessing and a gift to be part of this community and witness the YES! young adults work from a place of love, with the younger Haitians.

 

YES! has been the catalyst for me to pursue a Master's Degree in School Counseling. My hope and prayer are that I may serve young people here and in Haiti, with the academic, social, and emotional instruction I am learning.

As part of the YES! board, I help mentor our YES! young adults, most recently through online group and individual meetings. I also manage our donor database, bookkeeping, mailings, and records with Federal and State offices, and I travel to Haiti when the Lord opens the doors.
